Just in case you have been sleeping under a rock, businesses have taken to Facebook and Twitter like a duck to water. It is only a matter of time before Twitter begins to offer some type of advertising.

I know what your thinking, “Sure that is all well and good, but we have work to do and cannot be bothered with such trendy time wasters!” Well, I understand you if that is your stance on using social media for your business. However, if you have no time for social media you can assign that task to a team member, or you can hire a company to manage your social media.

Dell computers has sold more than 3 Million dollars worth of inventory from one Twitter account! That was nearly a year ago! It definitely makes you look at social media a little bit differently. You can reach your target audience quickly and on the cheap. Taking all of this into account please realize that Dell was employing “Social Marketing” via social media. Many people think of Twitter and Facebook as a means to tell people what you had for lunch or how your day went. While that is true, using social media to brand your company or to connect with users has shown to increase sales and customer loyalty.

People shudder at the fact that companies want to sell to them online. Those same people pull out their credit cards with glee when marketed to in a friendly and social way. Oh yeah, the times are a changing my friend and you better get hip to technology or you can watch your competitors do it and take all your online sales.

The best thing you can do right here today is to educate yourself on both of these social media power houses and ask yourself if it is right for you and your business. Do people who purchase your product or service use social media? You bet your bottom dollar they do!

Web Design in Chicago, How to Chose the Best One

Many of the web pages from years ago are getting incredible make-overs. They are getting replaced with web pages that load faster, look better and work harder than ever before. Modern technology has continued to grow rapidly. Old school websites are getting re-designed with CSS using modern web standards.

Don’t worry if that does not make much sense to you. You don’t have to learn techno-talk and confusing acronyms to buy a website for your business. You should make sure your web design provider steers clear of excessive technical jargon that you don’t understand. Make sure they break the details down into simple language that you can easily grasp.

Does your auto mechanic expect that you know the inner workings of your engine when you go to get a repair job? No, he doesn’t. He tells you what you need and delivers a repair for your car so you can get back on the road. Keeping that analogy in mind, you should simply tell your web designer what your requirements are. The service provider should just listen and deliver exactly what you asked for.

Before you starting the process, here are a few tips to help you in the process. Your website goals must be determined first. Are you going to sell products online? Have you identified target audience? Try starting off with performing some research using the search engine of choice to see what everybody else is doing.

Have you taken a good hard look at your competitors websites? This is a smart way to begin your game plan while generating new ideas. Do you want to provide your visitors with newsletter via email? Can you provide them with a free white paper explaining details of your service offerings? Have you considered using videos on your website to educate the visitors?

Your answers and questions should be noted in a word processing document or use a pad and paper. This is a great way for properly determining your website goals. Relax, you do not need to study web programming to get your website on running. What you need is an idea that reflects your company and a vision of what visitors coming to your website are looking for.

Before you commit to a contract for web design, it’s crucial that you do your research and determine the specific needs and goals of your project. Performing research can act as catalyst for ideas while providing a great staring point. Nobody knows your business better than you do, so begin to ask yourself questions. Is there anything that you do better than your competitors? Is there anything about your business you provide that is unique? What do poeple really need to know about your business?

It is very important that you find a service provider that compliments your business. Your service provider should have a concise understanding of your immediate goals online. Stay away from any phone calls you may get from web service providers that are pushy. Often, those service providers are overly eager to get your money and less ambitious to give you what you asked for.

Some companies will tell you SEO is better than PPC. This is because it’s FREE traffic…right? Well unless you did the SEO yourself it is not actually free.

Others will tell you to use PPC instead because you can track it and start getting traffic in 10 minutes.

Who is right? We believe that they should both be used in tandem together.

Many client’s have come to us with a list of keywords that they want to rank for. We tell them that those are the keywords that they “think” they should rank for. Proper testing needs to be performed on:

1.) The competitive nature of the industry

2.) The actual search volume

Otherwise you are just guessing what keywords to optimize for. We don’t guess at keywords. If you are guessing by just doing some searches of your competitors on Google, that is a good starting point, but it is not an SEO plan.

We use several methods that have been developed and tested over a period of time. Our methods deliver results that you can take to the bank.

If your industry is “hyper competitive”, such as the credit card industry, you will most likely want to start off with search terms that have a lower search volume. Oddly enough, many of those “low volume” search terms can lead to sales or business leads.

The reason for this is that there is usually more “intent” by the searcher as to exactly what it is they are looking for. This can often allow you to often dominate in a smaller sub-niche of your industry that is often overlooked by the high rollers.

You should always run some PPC for testing purposes before performing SEO to get a good idea of what keywords are actually converting. This way you never have to guess what keywords you should optimize your website for.
